Everything we build starts from a method rather than a feature list. Something has to have gone badly for us first — a way of learning that wasted our time until we found the way through it — before it becomes a product. What we are shipping is that mental model, with an app wrapped around it.

Why we are building it
Most language apps hand you a fixed curriculum — a preset path through vocabulary someone else decided you need. It works right up to the point where the thing you want to say isn't on it. You can finish a course knowing twelve colours and still have no way to ask someone to repeat themselves.
Nobody learns their first language that way. Children learn the language happening around them and get to use it the same day, long before anyone shows them a grammar table. We think adults can borrow more of that than the textbook format allows, and Movno is our attempt to find out how much.
How it works
You give the app the sentences you want to learn — by typing, speaking or photographing them. It extracts the words and reuses them in new combinations, teaching you the different contexts each word can appear in.
Those are then taught with spaced repetition: the material comes back just before you would have forgotten it, slowly settling into long-term memory. The words and phrases are shown on screen and pronounced at the same time. You can also lock the screen and learn from audio alone, with the phone still in your pocket.
