About us

It all began with a passion for languages. Our founder Igor spoke a few languages and was constantly adding new ones, while his sister struggled with learning a single foreign language.

He was sure that the method used for learning was far more important than the “talent for languages”, if such thing even exists. In an attempt to help his sister finally master German, Igor came up with the initial idea for Movno.

We have a couple of ideas to share with the world in terms of learning methods. Of course, they are all related to the things we're passionate about. We've spent countless frustrating hours learning them ourselves, before the “aha” moment finally struck. And we are eager to share the developed mental models with the world.

For now we are focusing on the reason this company exists — Movno: an app for iOS and Android to make language learning easier and more fun.

Most language apps hand you a fixed curriculum: a preset path through vocabulary someone else decided you need. That works right up until the thing you actually want to say isn't on it. Movno starts from the other end. You bring the phrases that matter to you — something you want to say to your partner's family, a sentence you heard and didn't catch — and the app builds lessons, drills and spaced review around them.
